Gmail customers report a glitch on Android smartphones and tablets, makes devices inoperable
Reports have been coming in from Gmail users with Android devices of a glitch that makes their Android device inoperable. Are you having this issue?
According to the reports, some Android smartphone and tablet users have been experiencing these issues when accessing their Gmail accounts through their mobile devices.
Customers are experiencing glitches with the Google mail service where it renders Gmail unusable and causes the Android device to hang as well.
What makes this Android/Gmail bug even more strange, is it causes the Android devices screen to flicker “like a strobe light”. This in turn makes the tablet or smartphone unusable and the user is forced to restart the device in order to get it out of its buggy state.

Google is well aware of the Gmail issue and has quickly responded, promising a fix is in route. “Beginning this morning, we’ve received reports of a bug causing some Gmail users on Android to experience screen flickering when they open the app. We are in the process of fixing it and the issue should be resolved shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
The glitch affects multiple handsets but doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue, only affecting a handful of Android users on certain Gmail accounts. Even so, comments from Android users are starting to pop up around the web complaining about their Android displays going haywire from this bug.
One Samsung Galaxy S user comments: “my galaxy s does it too, I can't scroll through the messages, and when I attempt to change folders it flashes like it's sideways scrolling, only the home key can snap it out if this, back button does not work.” While another mentions “Yep, this has been going a couple of days now and still no resolution. Kind of absurd considering it's Google…”
Update: Android users are reporting in the Android forms, Google might have already quietly fixed the Gmail bug. One Android user posted, “After more than 24 hours, out of the blue, without any local updates (i.e., same application version) it is now normal. Like several others, though, I consider paramount that Google discloses what really happened.”
So what really did happen? Most people are saying it was a glitch on Gmail’s side, hopefully Google will clear some things up pretty soon.
