RokuRoku
has just announced a new entry-level streaming video player for $49.99. At that price,
Roku
is really trying to take away from Apples “hobby” with the Apple TV, which retails for $99.99.
The new Roku LT is $10 cheaper than its existing entry level media player, but can do almost everything its bigger brothers have to offer. The LT is missing a couple of features from
Roku’s
other media players, such as Bluetooth and a MicroSD slot, it will also only push up to 720p video, just like the Apple TV. For $50, you will forget about the missing features and enjoy what it does have to offer.
The company has also announced they will be adding HBO Go to there already large choices of channels, including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, and Pandora, plus over 300 more choices. In order to use HBO Go, you will have to be already subscribed to HBO with your cable provider. HBO Go should be available to
Roku
customers early November, via an update.
Roku also offers some more pricier media players that feature gaming, 1080p streaming, MicroSD slot, Bluetooth, with the Roku 2 HD,
XD
, and
XS
. Currently prices range from $59.99 to $99.99, Until the Roku LT is added to the list in early November for $50.
Roku’s
new low price for a streaming video player, that does about the same thing as the Apple TV, for half the price is a steal. If you are not tied to Apple’s ecosystem such as iTunes, purchasing a Roku media player would be a no brainer. You can view more information on all of
Rokus products, at there website.
