Samsung announces Galaxy S II will hit US streets in August (Update)

Samsung’s president of mobile business, Shin Jong-kyun announced Samsung will be rolling out the Samsung Galaxy S II to US customers in August.

The Galaxy S II is already out in other parts of the world, except for the US. The original Galaxy S has had such great success in the States it's only logical that Samsung would send out the next best thing.

Samsung has not announced what mobile carriers will have the privilege to carry the Galaxy S II but most likely the “big four” should have a version to call their own.

The Galaxy S II will be launching right before Apple releases their new iPhone 5, maybe to try and get a head start in sales. With the impressive specs the Galaxy S II has, Samsung shouldn’t have a problem selling units just like the first Galaxy S. Samsung could also give the smartphone some minor upgrades before releasing it in the States.

Here are some specs for the current Galaxy S II:
  • 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen (the brightest in the world)
  • Rear-facing 8MP camera with flash, front-facing 2MP camera
  • Dual-core 1.2 GHz Exynos processor
  • 1 Gig of RAM and 2GB of ROM
  • 16 Gigs of internal memory
  • Up to 32 Gig microSD compatibility
  • Android 2.3.3
