How secure are Android apps?

How secure are Android apps? If you ask security firm Dasient, they would have a lot to say on that topic.
The security firm studied 10,000 apps for the Android operating system. They found that more then 8 percent of those apps are transmitting personal data to unauthorized computers, some are even used to spam every one on the phones contact list.
Dasient also found some apps can leak the IMEI and IMSI number from the phone the app is running on and send this information to unauthorized servers. The SIM card is then easily cloned with this information. The cloned SIM is then sold to create cloned phones.
A big reason for so many infected apps, have to do with Google not having strict regulations on what can be on the Android market. Android Developers can have an app up and ready to download in no time. Apple on the other hand has more strict regulations and can sometimes take months to approve an app.
The amount of infected apps have doubled on the Android Market over the last two years. Looks like Google will have to tighten up security soon because there are no signs of infected apps slowing down.
